Rousseau picked up the prize for Photographer of the Year at the prestigious British Press Awards, while Cheskin won Photographer of the Year at the First ScotRail Press Photography Awards.

Stefan has worked as a political photographer for the Press Association for many years. He has captured both the press conferences and the more private moments of British politicians and this is demonstrated through his winning portfolio.

Martin Keene, Group Picture Editor at Press Association, said: “We are immensely proud that Stefan’s work, in which he has captured some of the great moments of the political year, has been recognised by this most prestigious of journalism’s awards. It is a tremendous endorsement of his energy and enthusiasm.”

Meanwhile, Dave Cheskin was named Photographer of the Year for the third time in four years, at the First ScotRail Press Photography Awards, and received Celebrity Picture of the Year. Cheskin’s portfolio demonstrated “great versatility in his approach and style”, said Ken Lennox, former picture editor of the Sun and chair of the judging panel.

A further three photographers – John Giles, Gareth Copley and Andrew Milligan – received nominations this awards season.
